Passing Strangers
New operators meet in Blackburn
When Ribble sold some of its depots to Blazefield Holdings in 2001, two new companies named Burnley & Pendle and Lancashire United were formed.   Lancashire United inherited the routes around Blackburn and Accrington including the trunk services (225) Bolton to Clitheroe and (152) Preston to Burnley.   New vehicles were quickly ordered to replace the ageing Ribble buses.   Blazefield vehicles are always extremely well presented, and Lancashire United is no exception.   Their Wright bodied Volvos certainly create an excellent impression in Blackburn as represented by 1100 (PN02HVW) and 1088 (PO51MUB) above right, 1079 (PO51MTE) upper left and 1101 (PN02HWA) upper right. Hyndburn Transport
Hyndburn Transport used to operate to Accrington before Ribble assumed control.  Their 205 (LTK95R) looks resplendent in Blackburn bus station in December 1988.

Will the real Blackburn Transport stand up ?   Left: Blackburn Transport (aka Blackburn Borough Transport) 205 (B740GSC) an ECW bodied Olympian formerly of Lothian Buses and above: Blackburn Transport (aka Catch-Me-Bus.Com) J719KUM, an MCW Metrorider.   The two operators with the same name are chasing the same business in Blackburn.   Who said that competition was finished ?
