   Lazy afternoon in Cagliari

  Cagliari

Cagliari is the main city on the island of Sardinia which lies off the west coast of Italy.   Although not a top tourist destination it still boasts some interesting buildings and a pleasant port.   Siesta is observed here during the summer months which means between the hours of 1300 and 1700 nothing stirs at all.   Most of the shops close, there is nobody on the streets - only the buses continue to operate.   Lazing on a Saturday afternoon.

Buses

The resident company is CTM (Consorzio Trasporti e Mobilità) who run local buses in Cagliari.   Their fleet along with those in the other major cities of Olbia, Sassari and Oristano has had an influx of over 200 new Mercedes Citaros in the last year.   In addition there is the unfortunately named ARST who operate regional routes throughout Sardinia.   There is a dedicated bus station beside the port which casts long shadows in the brilliant sun.   Their fleet has recently seen a massive intake of new vehicles including 200 Scania Irizars.

Any Bar
Sardinia is clean, tidy and organised which may come as a surprise to those familiar with the Italian mainland.   Drop into any bar for a refreshing limoncello
