Salisbury Retrospective   
Salisbury is one of the main market towns in Wiltshire.   The resident bus company is Wilts &  Dorset, one of the last former-NBC operators still independently controlled.   [click to enlarge photos]

Dual-purpose Leyland National 3644 (GLJ680N) is seen at Amesbuy Bus Station near Salisbury on a warm Saturday evening in July 1978.   Stagecoach Hampshire Bus now operate from Salisbury to Andover. Salisbury Bus Station in August 1984.   Nationals 3672 (NEL125P) and 3674  (NEL127P) join RE's  613 (RLJ799H) and 606 (MMW356G) in the line-up. Under NBC control, Salisbury was served by Hants and Dorset.   Here their 127 (479BMR), a Bristol FS6G, awaits departure.   July 1978.

Sporting the then standard NBC dual-purpose style livery is 3901 (A901DPR) heading for Bristol in September 1987 Salisbury's future is riding on it.   Wilts & Dorset specialise in Optare vehicles, represented here by Spectra 3139 (M137 KRU) and Solo 2622 (R622NFX), seen in Salisbury bus station, May 2000. For a brief period a joint venture between Badgerline and Southern Vecits called Badger Vectis competed with Wilts and Dorset.   Seen both heading for Bemerton are Badgerline  D915HOU and Wilts & Dorset 3331 (JJT443N) in September 1987.
