November 2003
Worthing on a sunny Sunday in July is the perfect place to reflect on the glory days of Southdown operation.   A stroll along the promenade reminds enthusiasts and the public alike of a bygone era.   Below is a selection of the best that was on show.

Southdown
It's always a pleasure to see so many former Southdown vehicles at the Worthing rally.   Above left: Open top Queen Mary 412 (AOR158B) at the Sea Lane cafe.   Upper right: Queen Mary 279 (BUF279C) and Short Bros bodied Dennis UF1517, built in 1927 and stored at Amberley Museum.   Lower right: Leyland/Beadle integral 649 (MUF488) which dates from 1953 and Leyland Tiger TS7 1179 (DUF179) with locally built Harrington body from 1937.

Visitors
Provincial ECW bodied Bristol RE 12 (ECG112K).   All vehicles parked along the promenade at Worthing. Western National 1299 (OTT98), a fine Bristol MW, beside Harrington bodied Leopard L2 2722CD from Southdown. This Bristol VR from Stagecoach Hampshire is still in service as their 15763 (EWS751W) which started life with Bristol.

Brighton & Hove
Brighton & Hove are always represented at the rally where this year old met new.   Above left: Leyland PD2/Weymann 23 (23ACD) from 1962.   Above right: Recently delivered open-top Scania OmniDekka  617 (GX03SSZ).
