Seacat has changed
its Scottish port of departure from Stranraer to Troon. |
|
The
move has long been threatened, and
was made all the more likely last year when the company opted to sail
only once a day from Stranraer. |

The Seacat Scotland now crosses the
Irish Sea three times a day
from Troon to Belfast. A new terminal is currently being
constructed at Troon, with a portakabin and burger van providing
accommodation and refreshment respectively in the meantime. |

New Ferry for
Cairnryan |
|
Cairnryan had never
received a new ferry, that is until the European Causeway arrived on
August 14th. |
|
The vessel is part
of P&O’s continuing investment in the service to Larne. Built as a
multi-purpose vessel, it was due to replace the Pride of Rathlin, which
has served on the route since 1992.

Fast Craft
Upgraded |
|
After three years
of fast craft operation at Cairnryan, P&O have replaced the Jetliner
with the Superstar Express. |
|
The new craft has a
significantly greater capacity than its predecessor and has proved its
worth on the Portsmouth to Cherbourg service since 1998.

New Terminal
Building |
|
In addition to the
changes in tonnage at Cairnryan, a new terminal building has also been
opened this year. |
|
Although remarkably
austere in appearance, it is a welcome improvement on the previous huts
that served the site. Traditional blue mesh port authority fencing has
been erected everywhere to keep intruders and eager ferry enthusiasts
out.
