March 2004
Switzerland lies in deepest Europe and is completely land-locked.   Yet it has plenty of water in the shape of vast and spectacular lakes.   These lakes are served by paddle steamers and pleasure cruisers that form part of the enormous Swiss tourist industry.   Almost 20 steamers remain in service, principally on the two largest lakes - Geneva and Lucerne - although some operate on the smaller lakes.   There is definitely more to Switzerland than soft snow and hard cheese.
